WHAT CAUSES DRY ROT AND WET ROT? PRESENTATION Dry Rot (Serpula Lacrymans) and Wet Rot (Coniophora puteana) both have detrimental effects on the structure of your property. These fungi have destructive attributes that can cause serious deterioration to the foundations of your property. www.anglianpreservationinessex.co.uk
Dampness Structural dampness is the presence of unwanted moisture in the structure of a building, either the result of intrusion from outside or condensation from within the structure. A high proportion of damp problems in buildings are caused by ambient climate dependent factors of condensation and rain penetration.
Running Water Wet rot is often less damaging than dry rot. Typically, when you eliminate the source of moisture, the rot stops spreading. Once the moisture is eliminated, applying a fungicide like borax will help ward off fute wet or dry rot.
Poor ventilation Poor ventilation will result in an eventual build up of carbon dioxide and little oxygen, which means you could suffer from shortness of breath, headaches and fatigue
Bad Maintenance Dry rot spores in themselves are not harmful to your health. However, the damp conditions the fungus needs to germinate can represent a health hazard for older people, infants and those with respiratory conditions.
