WIND ENERGY IN SPAIN Carolina Acosta Mari Paz Muñoz Francisco Tomás Cruz
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form of energy, such as using wind turbines to make electricity, wind mills for mechanical power, wind pumps for pumping water or drainage, or sails to propel ships. ¿What is wind power?
Distribution of the wind farms in Spain A criteria based on the availability of intense, constant and regular wind throughout the year is especially taken into account when deciding the distribution of wind farms. For this reason, two of the traditional locations for these farms are the Galician coast and Tarifa in Andalusia, where the potential wind map shows the highest numbers.

Renewable energies involved in the production of electricity (2005)
The production of wind energy has been significantly increasing in the last decade
The European Commission released the following solar radiation map with the aim of detecting the most suitable areas in Europe to gather and store solar energy.
Data from 2009 Solar energy map of Spain In this map, each province shows two figures: the top figure represents the energy (kw/h) per square metre per year and the bottom figure the number of daylight hours per year.
Distribution of the solar farms in Spain Spain is one of the most suitable countries to develope renewable souces systems as it is the european country with the highest number of daylight hours. Spanish government promised to produced 12% of the energy based on renewables sources by 2010.
Distribution per autonomous communities (2003) • With regards to the distribution of the energy being stored, a significant asymmetry can be observed within Spain (attached figure). • Andalucia, Cataluña and Navarra stored 51% of the solar power in 2003.

Solar energy growth • Solar energy involved only a 0.04% of the electricity that was produced four years ago. This amount was so insignificant that it did´nt use to be considered in any energy report.
Spain: at the head of solar energy • As you can see in this graphic, the use of solar energy is predicted to increase in the next four or five years. • In 2020, a 22.7% of the final energy and a 42.3% of the electricity produced in Spain is expected to come from solar energy.
