  1. Chapter 0 By: Jose Almendariz, Joey Amato, Zack Dowz, Elias Hernandez

  2. Vocabulary Leading coefficient- The number before the variable with the biggest exponent. Relation- A set of ordered pairs. Domain- a set of the x-coordinates. Range- a set of y-coordinates Quadrants- The 4 areas of a coordinate plane. Vertical line test- Can only pass through one point. Greatest common factor- The biggest number or the most variable we can divide each term evenly. Mapping- ways of displaying ordered pairs. Function- A relation where every x has only on y- value

  3. Important Information • The range is the y- coordinate and the domain is the x-coordinate. • There are four quadrants in a graph. • There are three different types of factoring. Difference of two squares, trinomial (LC is 1), Trinomial (LC is not 1) • Remember the vertical pencil test. • Remember to GCF. When you divide you have to subtract the exponents but divide the coefficients. • FOIL

  4. Sample Problems • X: 2,4,-1,-9 Y: 1,5,-7,-10 • Domain: {-9,-1,2,4} • Range:{-10,-7,1,5} • Function=yes • (5x+1) (7x-2) Foil 35x2-10x+7x-2 35x2-3x-2 9x3+6x GCF 3x(3x2+2)

  5. More Sample Problems • X2-6x+5 Factor • (x-5)(x-1) • (1,-1) What quadrant is this ordered pair in • Q IV • X2 +9x +14 • (x + 7) (x+2)
