  5. Marijuana • Marijuana is 4 times more cancer causing than tobacco • Does this seem right? • Aka: chronic, weed, 420, blunt, ganga, pot • How it’s taken: smoked or eaten

  6. Marijuana Effects: increased heart rate, bloodshot eyes, dry mouth, increased appetite, short term memory loss , birth defects, and immune system deficiencies

  8. Barbiturates They produce a wide spectrum of effects, from mild sedation to total anesthesia.

  9. Hallucinogens LSD PCP Marijuana

  10. What are hallucinogens: drugs that causes altered states of perception, feelings, and consciousness. Medical uses: None

  11. LSD • Lyseric Acid Diethylamide • Hallucinogen that comes from a fungus grown on grain • Aka acid, blotters, lids, windowpane, cube, dots, microdots, hits, tabs, trips • Ways to take: • Licked off of absorbent paper called blotter paper • Gelatin square • Sugar cube

  12. lsd The high is called a “trip” Can cause severe thoughts and feelings, muscle weakness, impaired motor skills, lack of concentration These effects begin within 30-45 minutes and last 6-8 hours It is not physically addictive, but can be psychologically addictive

  13. PCP Phencyclidine Formerly used as an anesthetic agent Aka: Angel dust, dust, synthetic marijuana, boat, zombie, killer weed, crystal Comes in White powder, tablet, or capsules Can be take: orally, snorted, smoked or injected

  14. Can cause speech disturbances, increased blood pressure and heart rate, agitation, delusions These effects begin within 30 minutes and the “high” lasts 4-6 hours, and the effects decline within 24 hours. It is physically and psychologically addictive

  15. Ecstacy Stimulant and hallucinogen Taken in pill form Aka: XTC, adam, x, E, bean Is it addictive? Possibly

  16. Affects: mood, aggression, sexual activity, sleep, insomnia, increased blood pressure and heart rate, sensitivity to pain Causes: memory loss, hyperthermia (cooks your body and your brain), anxiety These effects begin within 30-60 minutes and typically last 3-6 hours

  17. Mushroom Dried mushrooms or capsules are taken orally. Aka: shrooms, magic mushrooms, caps, boomers, fungus

  18. Can cause facial numbness, abdominal cramping, hallucinations, impaired memory. These effects typically begin within 3-6 hours of ingestion. It is neither physically or psychologically addictive

  21. Heroin Comes from poppy plant Can be injected, smoked, or snorted Can cause infections to the heart and lungs, and veins to collapse = death

  22. Meth Stimulant Aka: chalk, crank, croak, crypto, crystal, fire, glass, tweek, white cross, ice, speed

  23. May cause psychotic behavior and brain damage Can be ingested, smoked, injected, or snorted.

  24. Codeine & Morphine • Codeine: Pain killer • Causes drowsiness • Habit forming • Morphine: Very strong pain killer • Highly addictive

  27. Cocaine Aka: Coke, snow, blow, nose candy, mojo Can be inhaled, smoked, and injected

  28. Effects: Increased heart rate and breathing, paranoia, stimulates the nervous system, seizures, possible heart attack

  29. Club drugs Lab produced designer drugs Examples: Rohypnol, ketamine, ecstasy

  30. Inhalants Propellants or solvents that are huffed or sniffed Examples: gas, nitrous oxide, cleaning fluid, glue, etc.
