MCN 2012 Accomplishments • 2012 Nursing Survey will be available October 1, 2012 • Nursing Summit cosponsored with MONE November 1, 2012 at Cleary College in Howell • Held two Institutes of Nursing Excellence (Spring and Fall) • Member of the Task force on Nursing Practice (TFNP) • Member of the Nursing Education Council (MNEC) • Held 3 leadership academies Leading Toward Tomorrow as part of the RWJF Partners Investing in Nursing to date 128 nurse managers have attended.

MCN 2013 Plan of Work • 2013 Nursing Survey • Focus on patient safety across all career stages and educational levels. • Develop ways to communicate the role of nurses with a DNP, NP, CNL, CNS. • Identify nursing’s role in the changing healthcare environment. • Study models that will ease academic progression for nursing students • Develop toolkits for Transition to Practice in a variety of work settings

  4. 2013 Wish List MCN wrote a State Implementation Plan (SIP) proposal to Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to fund moving the work of the Michigan Action Coalition forward. Grants will be awarded in October 2012. This will enable MCN to make the IOM recommendations a priority rather than an add on to the work of the Center.

  5. 2013 MCN Structure The changes at MDCH have meant changes in how the work of the Center for Nursing gets accomplished. Instead of having the large advisory committee we have had in the past we will have a smaller “Nursing Thought Leader” committee to help identify goals for the Center. We will work closely with the Director of Nursing Policy when that position is filled.
