Where are we today • 85 T Operations user program • World Leading and Unique User Environment • Currently executing our second call of proposals • Set World Record for non-destructive high field (89 Tesla) • Have the Worlds largest (electrical) Pulsed Power System • 1.4 GVA Has Enabled the Only Reliable Fields > 80T • +600 MJ pulse capacity • use 140 MJ for the 85 T magnet outsert • Have established a world leading competency in Fermi Surface Topology using all NHMFL magnets (especially the 85 T)
Where are we going? • 100 T • (Operational System Verification) • Acceptable risk field for user operations • Based on analysis of mechanics at peak field. (Primarily determined by outsert) • 100 T user operations
How? • By reducing bore from 15 to 10 mm • Insert delivers 61.3 T by itself • Outsert delivers (37.0 – 3.3) T = 33.7 T • Same risk to outsert as current 85 T operations • To reach 100 T outsert must deliver 5 T more • Assess risk of 42 T outsert field
When? (Major Milestones) • 10 mm Insert Cad Design (Done Aug 2011) • 42T outsert Eng. Risk Assessment Nov 30th 2010 • 10 mm insert completed by Jan 30th 2011 • Test to 95 T or higher (Mar – Apr 2011) • 100 T user operations analysis (June 2011) • Upgrade for 100 T user ops … (2012 – 2014) • Upgraded outsert and spares (coils 1-4 of the outsert)
