  1. What is Vaginismus? Vaginismus is a condition involving a muscle spasm in the pelvic floor muscles. It can make it painful, difficult, or impossible to have sexual intercourse, to undergo a gynecological exam, and to insert a tampon. What are the symptoms of vaginismus? Painful sex (dyspareunia) is often the first sign of vaginismus. The pain happens only with penetration. It usually goes away after withdrawal, but not always. Symptoms of vaginismus include: 1. Not being able to have penetrative sex or insert a tampon all Fear of pain or sex Loss of sexual desire 2. 3. These symptoms are involuntary, meaning a woman can’t control them without treatment.
