God has called out a people who through their very life together would bear witness to God’s character and reconciling mission in the world... If the church is to be the community God desires it to be, then it will have to reflect the character and mission of the God it worships. Kenneson

You are the “victim” of a lifelong, educationally enhanced learning mode that establishes you as the controlling power (reader) who seeks to master a body of information (text) that can be used by you (technique, method, model) to advance your own purposes (in this case, spiritual formation) • Thus our general mode of reading is to perceive the text as an object “out there” over which we have control. We control our approach to the text, we control our interaction with the text; we control the impact of the text upon our lives • Our predominant mode of being, however is the rational, the cognitive, the intellectual. We filter; we sift everything through the cognitive processes of our mind
Human cultures are inreasingly shaped by an informational mode of being and doing. This informational mode is an integral part of what I call the “functional” orientation of human cultures. Our culture seek more information (new facts, new bodies of knowledge. New techniques, new methods, new systems,, new programs) in order to improve their functional control of their world. The continuing exponential explosion of information on the Internet powerfully illustrates the informational passion of human cultures. The acquiring of knowledge, information, techniques, methods, and systems, rather than serving to change the qaulity of our being, is the primary purpose of improving or enhancing our ability to change the world to our parameters. The person with the most and best information is positioned to control their segment of the world
True life and wholeness are the results of being shaped by the Word of God.This shaping, however, is not something we do by our efforts (functional); it is what God does in us when we are in loving, receptive responsive relationship with God. ..If the scripture is to become such an instrument of God in our lives, we must shift from a functional to a relational mode of approach to the scripture.
2Tim 3:16 • Teaching – letting the good news of Jesus Christ intrude in our life and radically change us • Reproof – letting God shine a light to discern our thoughts and intentions and reveal our places of brokeness • Correction – straightening out everything inconsistent in us with the full nature of God’s joyous, loving being • Training – educating, nurturing, and growing us up into mature persons whose every action is a work of service to someone else. - Jan Johnson van R Mulholland
Kol 3:16 • Letterlik die “woord van Christus” moet in ons woon. Presentia realis = inwoning en teenwoordigheid vd lewende Heer
Praktiese wenke • In our meditation we ponder a chosen text on the strength of the promise that it has something utterly personal to say to us for this day.. We are waiting for God’s Word to us. Bonhoeffer • Bly by een teks ‘n week “..in our personal meditation we confine ourselves to a brief selected text, which possibly may not be changed for a whole week” Bonhoeffer • Moenie teks neem waaroor jy preek • Leesrooster/Bybelboek • Ritme - tyd - plek • Groep - onderskeiding
Ander toepassings • Jeugbediening • Aanddienste • Kerkraadvergaderings
‘n Liturgie van onderskeiding • Ritueel - Bewus van God se teenwoordigheid • Bou verhoudings: Hoe gaan dit met jou? NB – luister na mekaar! • Ontvang – Lectio Divina • Deel met mekaar: Wat het ons gehoor? • Nadenke oor ons gesamentlike roeping Lectio oor die lewe • Reageer – agenda Waar sien ons God aan die werk? • Herfokus: Wat wil God he moet ons nou gaan doen?
