After having found a potential supervisor • Apply directly to the professor in question with information regarding: - your prior academic achievements, - the topic of your master’s thesis, - the subject area in which you wish to specialize, - include a well thought-out proposal for your dissertation in your application.
After being accepted by a supervisor • your eligibility as a doctoral candidate must be confirmed by the responsible department or doctoral committee • some universities require candidates to apply for admission to the doctoral examination at this phase

How to apply successfully? • does the program & the institution suit my doctoral proposal? • what are the requirements? • what is expected of doctoral students? • be sure your planned doctoral thesis fits in with the program • do you have a very good degree, recognized in Germany? • initial contacts usually via the Internet and include as a first step submitting a CV, degree certificate, brief research proposal & cover letter with your reasons for application • the second step is usually done on request
Pre-conditions for applications for a DAAD scholarship • future faculty for Palestinian universities - academic career plans • excellent grades - minimum average in Bachelor & Master degree: 80% or 3/4 • excellent English

After having submitted your application to DAAD • letter of regret or • invitation for an interview by the local DAAD committee (in Birzeit and Gaza) • after completion of all interviews • letter of regret or • place on the shortlist sent to DAAD in Bonn / Germany for final decision 11

2014 PhD & IT PhD Interviews • PhD: Westbank: Birzeit University, October 10, 2014 Gaza: October 31 – November 3, 2014 • IT PhD: Westbank: Birzeit University, October 17, 2014 Gaza: October 31 – November 3, 2014 Final decision by the DAAD committee in Bonn: mid February 2015
Scholarship schedule • 6 months German language course from April 1 or October 1, 2015 • PhD research from October 1, 2015 or April 1, 2016 • duration of PhD: 3 years
Scholarship value • study fees (maximum 500 Euro/semester) • monthly allowance for living-expenses • travel allowance • study & research subsidy • accident & health insurance • family allowance on application after completion of German course • Attention: it is not possible to be accompanied by any family member for the duration of your language course
