In most dramas a narrator is not needed since plays depend on dialogue • Plays are not written to be read in a book; they are written to be performed on a stage • The theatre during the time of Shakespeare consisted of a main (lower) stage, an upper stage, a back stage and sometimes a trap door. • The Globe
