  1. Fascism and Communism A Comparison of ideology and history

  2. Political Ideology Fascism Communism Existence is struggle - the strong survive and thrive, the weak are enslaved and die Countries are like animals in nature The Leader is never questioned Goal is to replace struggle and exploitation with cooperation Countries are capitalist tools of exploitation Government will eventually fade away

  3. Economic Theory Fascism Communism Capitalist based system Profit and private ownership is valued State directed and coordinated (The Leader), not free-market Military focus Goal is the abolition of all private property and profit Communal sharing of needs/talents

  4. Cultural Beliefs Fascism Communism Action (often violent) focus Militaristic in style Anti-intellectual Coordination of religion/art/science to serve the State and Leader Intellectual focus Religion is a tool of capitalism. Atheist. Art and science should promote the greater good and propaganda of ideology

  5. Social Issues Fascism Communism Racist ranking of peoples/nations Strict hierarchy/class system Women in traditional roles (children, church and kitchen) Equality of all people, genders and races Non-traditional roles for women (= men)

  6. Historical Examples Fascism Communism Hitler and Nazi Germany Mussolini and Italy Peron and Argentina “Right-wing” Marx (theory) Lenin/Stalin and the USSR? Castro and Cuba “Left-wing”

  7. Finally, keep in mind that this is an imperfect approximation of very loose historical practices: The Nazis in Germany failed to seize power through a violent coup – they were elected to power through a democratic process The communist world more often resembles the fascist state with a dictator and totalitarian control of a very unequal society Often, as in Peron’s Argentina (or modern China), you will see a mixture of both fascist and communist ideology mixed
