Organization • Funded via Australia, Canada, France, UK and US voluntary contributions • Established in Feb. 2001 (Toulouse, France) • Office space & logistics: CLS-Argos as contracted • Guidelines and supervision by the AST chairman • Close collaboration with the Argo Director • Participate in the JCOMMOPS activities • Administration: IOC of UNESCO • Close collaboration with IOC & WMO Secretariats Complete independence100 % of working time dedicated to Argo

Role of AIC • Implementation of the IOC Resolution XX-6 • International Technical Coordination • Program Implementation & Monitoring • Participation in the Argo Data Management Team • Promotion of dialogue between Research/Operational &Oceanographic/Meteorological communities • Program promotion, encourage new partners Assisting as appropriate in the implementation of the Argo network Acting as a focal point Acting as a clearing house

  7. Monitoring System: Official Argo Network • An Argo float is more than a profiling float (EEZs, label, data policy, who, when, where ...) • Global Argo Status done using the AIC float lists
