  1. LATINO EDUCATION ACHIEVEMENT TO GRADUATION Closing the Achievement Gap

  2. Mission Statement The mission of the LEAG Program is to promote graduation through academic achievement, parental involvement, attendance and positive behavior of at risk Latino students.

  3. LEAG • Criteria for selection: • GPA is between 1.5 to 2.4. • The student’s absences must fall below the expected attendance of 90%. • Excessive need for disciplinary action has been noted. • Earned credits at HS are not within range for graduation. • Teacher- Parent- Student- Administration Referral • Ethnic code is 4 (Hispanic)

  4. LEAG Liaisons Responsibilities • Meet with students individually • Visit with teacher weekly (varies) • Monitor progress reports • Monitor attendance (daily/weekly) • Group meeting at least once a month • Work towards goals-between you, the school and the student. • Use data to track student progress • Develop student intervention plan, use as needed within the program • Contact parents-log-keep some form of record.

  5. Philosophy of the LEAG Program • The whole philosophy changed to encompass the needs of our Latino students at the High School level and at the Middle School level. • Much of the Middle School philosophy is based on participation and tutoring w/classroom teachers. • Everything that we do is based on the criteria for selection and on the data that we are now providing through the Office of Equity and Minority Student Success. • Every school is different in the approach of providing LEAG in their building.

  6. Where does LEAG fit? • Where our program fits in with all of the MCVSD Initiatives and Processes already in place— • We are an Intervention Program • We are part of the District Initiative involving Latino students that are falling through the Achievement Gap • We will continue to use data to show where our students align towards graduation at each grade level.
