  1. Teenage Suffrage # 282012

  2. My amendment lowers the voting age to 16. Sixteen and seventeen years old citizens will be allowed to vote if they pay income tax.

  3. Amendment 28 allows young adults who pay income to have a say in their government.

  4. Many 16 and 17 year olds are employed and contribute to the government by paying income tax. They were not given a say in the government they help support until they turned 18.

  5. Before this amendment, many young adults contributed and supported the government, but they were not allowed to vote for the leaders who could tax them. • This amendment solves the problem by allowing them to vote for the representatives.

  6. Amendment 28 has had a huge impact on American society! • Prior to this amendment, many of our Congressmen and women were over the age of 50. • Currently, over 25% of our Congress is under the age of 35.

  7. 2012New Senators • As a result, younger Americans feel more represented by our government. • The number of registered voters who voted in the last election jumped from 33% to 75%.

  8. In January 2012, the Association of American Retired People (AARP) filed a lawsuit claiming they are being denied a fair voice in the government. • The lawsuit is called AARP vs. Obama. • A decision has not been reached regarding the case.

  9. Betty White was the spokesperson for the amendment and its passage in Congress.

  10. Sarah Palin filed the lawsuit on behalf of the AARP. She belongs to AARP and is the spokesperson in this case.

  11. Clint Eastwood is the lead attorney for AARP. He belongs to the Republican Party.

  12. I believe that Amendment 28 is a good amendment. People who pay taxes to support the government should be given a say in the government, no matter their age. • I also believe that 16 and 17 year olds are mature enough the make informed decisions about who they support.

  13. If I could make any changes to this amendment, I would require that people pay at least $2,000 a year in taxes before being given the right to vote.
