  2. Seattle, Washington – October 28, 2013 – Seattle Veterinary Hospital, Carkeek park, wants pet-owners to understand that pets and Halloween can be a volatile mix, and while Halloween can be a lot of fun for children, pets can become anxious by the new activity and strange costumes.

  3. Many dogs think they are the guardians of their homes, and because of that they can feel threatened if a stranger comes into their zone,” explains veterinarian, Dr. Russell Clark “If your pet is apprehensive in these situations, you need to be sensitive to that and make preparations before Halloween to keep your dog or cat from becoming confused and fleeing your home or perhaps even biting somebody

  4. Chocolate candy isn’t the only treat that is potentially dangerous. Some pets will consume an entire candy bar, including the wrapper, which can cause intestinal blockage.

  5. And products like Xylitol, an artificial sweetener used in many chewing gums and baked goods, have been proven to be poisonous to dogs. In addition, raisins, a common healthy treat for kids on Halloween, can be poisonous to dogs and cats. So it’s best to keep these in mind when it comes to your canine pet management.

  6. In addition, Halloween decorations, like candles or jack-o’-lanterns, and pets don’t mix. Your pet could easily knock them over and start a fire or suffer burns themselves. It’s best to make sure they’re placed where they can’t be accessed by pets.

  7. And make sure that every day, but particularly on Halloween, your pet has proper identification. With the front door opening and closing to allow costumed neighborhood children entry into your home, it’s possible a pet could panic and run outside while you’re handing out candy. Proper identification, particularly microchip identification, with up-to-date registered information, will make it much more likely that in case he does make a run for it, that you’ll be reunited with him after.

  8. The Carkeek team’s passion doesn’t just stay within the walls of their facility. They strive to extend their expertise and talents to the animals that need them the most yet haven’t had the best of luck in life.
