  3. OBJECTIVES(formal) • Exposure to clinical settings and professionals • Exposure to complexities of “real world” • Opportunity to apply skills, learning • Provide a service • “Develop opportunities for references, job opportunities, and professional contacts.”

  4. OBJECTIVES(informal) • Gain an opportunity to see the world from your Preceptor’s position. Be a fly on the wall for all that they do. • Gain an opportunity to get an overview of the organization. Usually this means rotating through departments. • Make a contribution to the organization. Usually means accepting responsibility for a meaningful project.

  5. Generalities YOUR RESPONSIBILITY • Read the Practicum Manual • PHPM will assist you: • Faculty Advisor • Practicum Coordinator - MHA • Requirements & Guidelines • Work Plan • Hours (400 – 40 hours/week x 10 weeks) • Work Setting

  6. Finding/Selecting • PRIME DIRECTIVE: What do you want/hope/plan to do when you graduate? Do a practicum project that will move you in that direction. • Second: Do your homework on what is possible/available • Other students Faculty Advisor • Conventions Alexander/Buckley • Internet MHA Alumni • Student Associations NETWORK

  9. Work Plan • Must have approved WP in order to register • Approved means a fully developed WP signed by: (1) You, (2) Your Faculty Advisor (for practicum) (3) Your Preceptor (onsite supervisor)

  10. Requirements for Credit • In addition to the approved Work Plan: (1) Periodic Reports (2) Final Report (3) Preceptor Evaluation (4) Presentation
