  1. Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (NKJV).

  2. Salvation Forgiveness of sins, a reconciled relationship with God to man, giving hope of eternal life. Matthew 1:21 “…He will save His people from their sins.” Romans 5:9-10 Reconciled us to Himself—saved from wrath.

  3. What Bearing Do Works Have on Salvation? A. Works in the New Testament Sinful Works Make Salvation Necessary • Good works (Matt. 5:16). • Dead works (Heb. 6:1). • Works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19). • Works of darkness (Eph. 5:11). • Works of righteousness (Acts 10:35). • Evil works (1 John 3:12). • Wicked works (Col. 1:21). Romans 2:5-10

  4. What Bearing Do Works Have on Salvation? B. Works in the New Testament Can Good Works Bring Salvation? • Good works cannot merit salvation (Titus 3:3-7). • In order for God to save us Himself, He commands us to work (John 6:28-29; James 2:17-22; Matt. 22:37; 1 John 5:3). • Repent of sinful works (Rev. 9:20-21). • Do works befitting repentance (Acts 26:20; Rev. 2:25-26; Titus 3:5-8). • Repent, do first works (Rev. 2:4-5).

  5. How is This “Not of Works”? A. B. Works in the New Testament It does not come by works of the Law of Moses (Gal. 2:16; Rom. 9:32). It is not merited by our works but by Christ’s death (2 Tim. 1:8-10). Works without faith and the proper attitude are meaningless (Matt. 23:5; James 3:13). Salvation can be granted in spite of works (Rom. 4:5-8). C. D.

  6. James 2:21 “Abraham was justified by works when he offered Isaac.” James 2:24 “…A man is justified by works and not by faith only.”

  7. Acts 10:34-35 “…God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.”
