How will this morning work? • Initially you will do some thinking and planning on your own • Then you will share ideas with a person from another school • You will then take these ideas in the form of a question or statement to your school group. (if you are here on your own you will be invited to join a group) • As a school team you will have an hour to work , using the inquiry process, on an idea or strategy that you will be able to action in your school tomorrow. • There are resources in your kits and 2 laptops with internet access available
Future Pathways is: An NZC focussed, team approach to integrating careers throughout the school curriculum. By weaving together the resources of the careers information grant/ transition/Gateway/STAR/Youth apprenticeships etc, all students can be supported to make successful, well informed transitions from school to the world beyond.
What am I wondering? – possible triggers Scenarios: • Student X is in Yr13 and seems aimless. He/she still has no idea about a pathway past school and is therefore becoming difficult to engage in their subject classes. X is typical of a few every year at this level and we always seem to struggle to meet their needs. • We are really busy and don’t seem to have enough time to do all the stuff in our jobs. We seem to spend most of our time on nuts and bolts when we know that there are bigger issues that need to be considered. • As a pathways team we are already working to capacity. We have lots of great ideas and want to realise these for our school and kids without creating yet more work for our little department Complete the first 4 sections on the Individual Inquiry sheet in your kit
Peer share: • Discuss your response with someone from another school • Complete the form by adding any strategies or ideas that come out of this discussion NOW...... • On your own, process the discussions you have just had using the personal reflection prompts from the sheet. • Now write your question and statement to take to your team meeting after morning tea. • Advisers will now explain team inquiry process
Team-based Inquiry • Each team/group member poses their question/statement and summarises the process that lead to this. (10 mins) • Decide on a common focus (5 mins) • Conduct an inquiry and work towards a self-determined outcome using the A3 sheet provided as a guide (1 hour) • Construct a 5 minute group presentation using the ‘presentation’ sheet from your kit and then present to whole cluster. (5 mins)
Considerations for ‘in-school’ Professional Development support In professional development supported by Massey CED Advisers, the following aspects need to be considered: • The work in some way fits with the MOE focus areas of- Maori student achievement- Leadership- Effective pedagogy (and linking to NZC)- Pathways (Please refer to the MOE Intent document in your kit) • It should link with the school strategic direction and plan • It has the support of the Principal – it will be backed by the Senior Leadership Team. • The proposal is evidence driven (it is supported with evidence of need or evidence that supports your theory) • The proposal has clear outcomes. • The focus is narrow and deep with clearly defined action steps • The School Support Services in-school Advisory attracts no charge. You may also wish to consider: When change has been successful in your school in the past, what have been key factors in the change process? (People, methods, timing, etc)
