  5. Standard Sequence ForCollege Admissions Testing

  6. Balancing the Schedule Sophomore year = Very Important !!! • First or Second Year of a Science • First or Second Year of a Foreign Language • Full Year of World History • First Year AP classes are an option

  7. Balancing Schedule Cont’d Questions to consider when picking classes: • What are my plans for after High School? • How many sports or clubs will I be joining? • How difficult was Freshman Year? Goal = To be challenged but not overwhelmed

  8. Math for Sophomores at AVHS • It is highly recommended that you take math every year in high school. Some of the reasons are: • to further your problem solving skills which will, in turn, bring you more success in the workplace. • to meet the entrance expectations of most four year colleges. • to score well on junior college and four year college entrance exams. Placement exams determine what math class a student will take in college. A poor score on the college placement exam will result in you having to take (and pay for) more remedial math classes in college. Often, these classes are taken for no college credit. • to meet the prerequisites of science classes you may want to take here at Amador or in college.

  9. Math Options for Sophomores

  10. AP vs Honors Courses • AP Course = College Level • AP you will earn an extra GPA point • AP exams at the end of the year provide college credit • Honors classes more rigorous than regular college Prep classes but less than AP • Honors = NO extra GPA point but colleges do consider that the student challenged themselves
