Class Protected Areas in Bulgaria
National park Class protected territory or areaProtects natural ecosystems, habitats of threaten of extinction animal and plant species and groups, remarkable objects of inanimate nature. The first national park is Yellowstone in the USA, created in 1872. In Bulgaria the national parks lands belong only to the state. People in their territories live only in an environmental friendly way. Marked zones are: reserves and cultivated reserves, chalets, administration centers of parks, tourist zones etc. There are three national parks in Bulgaria.

Reserve Class protected territoryProtects natural ecosystems and habitats of threatened of extinction, rare animal and plant species and groups for long time and for scientific purposes. People are allowed to pass directly, following paths for tourists. The biggest reserve is the Central Rilla reserve, occupating 12 393,7 ha. The smallest one is the island Kitka in the Danube river, occupating 25 ha.

Protected land Class protected territoryThey are areas, where you can see typical for Bulgaria or remarkable landscapes, habitat of endangered, rare or extinct plant and animal species. Activities threatening the existence of protected objects are banned there Protected lands in Haskovo and Kardjali area Bakarlia, Dupkata(The Hole), Zlatno pole(Golden field), Likana, Oreshari, Patronka, Sredna(The Middle) Arda, Jumruk(Fist) skala(rock)
Natural landmark Class protected territoryProtects unique, remarkable and traditional objects of inanimate nature, which have academic and aesthetic value. Natural landmarks are geological and hydrological objects: rock forms and structures, caves, waterfalls, karst springs, lakes, palaeontological and mineralogical formations. A lot of natural landmarks are inhabited by endangered and rare species and groups. Monuments of culture can be found there
