Requests for Computer Based Teaching • Programmes should be available in the local language, or it should be possible to translate the programme from the English language in any other language. • Teachers should be able to edit by themselves the content of a programme, or to add their own information to it.
CaseStudies objectives • To provide for pharmacotherapy teachers a framework for recording cases in any language to be used as a multi-media tutorial and for assessing knowledge and skills. • To provide a tutorial for medical students in order to get familiar with the five steps of rational drug prescribing • To provide a tool for assessing pharmaco-therapeutical skills in a real-life setting
Features of CaseStudies Teacher’s version Tutorial part Student’s version Assessment • CaseStudies is a general model – database application -, into which it is possible to record a case in any language without any other demand on programming. CaseStudies
The tutorial makes students familiar with the five steps of rational drug prescribing in an interactive way: Information can be obtained from websites, access to literature, video clips, etc.
Assessment of knowledge and skills 101 A-F Assessment of students knowledge and skills is done with a set of branching questions, simulating real-life situations. Results are stored in a database for evaluation later on by the professor. 102 A-F 202 A-F 302 A-F 103 A-F 203 A-F 303 A-F 104 A-F 204 A-F 304 A-F
Conclusion • CaseStudies is a general model – database application -, into which it is possible to record a case in any language without any other demand on programming. • Assessment of students knowledge and skills is done with a set of branching questions, simulating real-life situations.
Info • CaseStudies is one of the modules of “Microlabs for Pharmacologists”. • Microlabs is a set of simulations replacing practical courses in Pharmacology. • Microlabs, including CaseStudies, can be obtained for free from the author: h.vanwilgenburg@amc.uva.nl
