The slow and incorrect cutting produced by knives, shears, saws, and other technologies frequently puts a stop to manufacturers' attempts to cut plastics, glass, metals, and food more effectively. Waterjet cutting of graphite/epoxy composites cannot be done to the required tolerances, not even with plasma arc or CNC laser cutting. On the other hand, waterjets can create high-quality, dust-free cuts in virtually any material and can cut to nearly-net shape on complex designs. In the aerospace, automotive, electrical, and other industries, waterjets are commonly used to cut items including titanium aircraft parts, printed circuit boards, dashboards, diapers, cake, and sweets.
