  1. For a beginning surfer, nothing is more important than choosing the right first surfboard. Keeping the following tips in mind can help you to choose your first surfboard efficiently.

  2. The Type of Surfer you are- The age, weight and fitness level of an individual plays a key role in making a decision, so pick a surfboard for you according to your body type. Other factors to consider in making an informed decision are the beaches you surf in, the type of waves and your ability. Pick a surfboard that is appropriate for the surfer you are now, and not the one you want to become.

  3. First Surfboard doesn’t have to be Expensive- There are no two ways about you going to ding and scratch a board if you really put it to use while learning how to surf, so it’s better not to spend much cash on your first surfboard. A $400 surfboard will ding as easy as a $100 surfboard. Don’t worry about minor yellowing and small dings. But avoid dings that show foam or any delamination.

  4. Your Surfboard should be Big and Thick- A board should be able to give flotation and should allow for easy paddling. A good-quality average size board for a beginning surfer would be around 7 feet long and 19-21 inches wide and at least 2-3 inches thick which depends on your size in order for you to comfortably carry and wield the surfboard in the water. Your surfboard should stand at least a foot taller than you. For instance, a 120-pound surfer should look for a 6 feet 10-inch board while a 140 pounder might look towards a 7 feet 2-inch board.

  5. The Shape of your Surfboard- Don’t worry about the tail shape or number of fins on your surfboard. These are parts of a surfboard that shouldn’t be a matter of concern. It doesn’t matterwhether your surfboard is a swallowtail or a pintail or even if your surfboard only has one fin because in the initial 3-6 months, you shouldn’t worry about turning or doing maneuvers anyway. Keep in mind, 3-fin boards are the easiest to turn and the most functional fin set up for the advanced and intermediate surfer.

  6. Choose a reputed company when going out to buying a surfboard with there being several companies that make soft surfboards that consist of a bodyboard-like material, and the fins are flexible to help prevent injuries while learning your craft.

  7. Hope, these tips come for your help in choosing your first surfboard.Just find a big, cheap board that you can carry to the beach get stoked and learn how to surf regardless of where you buy it from.
