Equating the Present and New Systems • Originally 1 – 8 scale • Changed to 1 – 9 • Grade 5 aligned with the average performance of 16 year-olds form the highest achieving countries in international league tables • Grade 5 represents the top third of marks for current grade C and bottom third of marks for current grade B • Speculation that grade 5 might become new bench mark for ‘good’ • 3 / 4 aligns with the present D/C boundary • 6 / 7 aligns with the present B/A boundary • Top 20% of grade 8s will be awarded grade 9

Tracking against target grades - Ensure students are on target throughout their academic career - Take early action where necessary - It is reasonable to expect students to be within one grade of their end of year target - Attainment which is more than one grade below end of year target may signify significant underachievement and is therefore a cause for concern. - Students will be asked to repeat work which is not of a high enough standard
