EEDI on RO-RO ships RO-RO Cargo and Passengerships JVG
Introduction • The EEDI reference for RORO shipscouldbenefit the use of the fraction of GT/DWT • GT/DWT describes the reciprok value of ”density” of the cargo • RORO cargo and RO PAX couldbetreated as onegroup • - but furtherdividing in RORO-Vehicle, RORO-nonvehicle and RORO-PAX seem to be more appropriate JVG
EEDI of all RORO shipsRORO > 400 GT, 1999-2009, IHS FairplayR2 = 0.73 JVG
EEDI of RO-RO split in RORO cargo and RO PAXCompared to ”RORO all” R2 is lowerwhen split in RORO cargo (0.66) and RO PAX (0.57) JVG
Deviation of EEDI from regression line Deviation dependingonvalue of GT/DWT – the reciprok ”cargodensity” value JVG
Deviation of EEDI from regression line Similar nature of deviations in EEDI on RORO cargo and RO PAX RORO cargoshipsconcentrated at low GT/DWT (all below 5.1), RO PAX mainly at high GT/DWT (all above 0.86) Mix of RORO cargo and RO PAX JVG
Deviation of EEDI from regression line RORO shipsdivided in 6 categories – dependingon ”density” value GT/DWT 1 2 3 4 5 6 JVG
EEDI of RO-RO divided in 6 densitycategoriesR2 valuesaresignificantlyincreased88% of the shipsaregroupedwith R2 values of more than 0.80 JVG
EEDI of RO-RO divided in 6 densitycategoriesCategori 1 and 2: HighDensity - GT/DWT < 1.30 JVG
EEDI of RO-RO divided in 6 densitycategoriesCategori 3 and 4: Medium Density - GT/DWT < 4.70 JVG
EEDI of RO-RO divided in 6 densitycategoriesCategori 5 and 6: LowDensity - GT/DWT > 4.7 JVG
Grouping by objectivemeansReference line using variable factor(a) and constantexponent (-c)(a) is calculated relative from variable konstant (a)(c) using the value of ”all RORO ships” JVG
An overall reference line for ROROUsing a correction factor on RORO shipsEEDI correction factor: (-0.0099*(GT/DWT)^2)+(0.3551*GT/DWT)-0.7719)Correction factor couldbechanged to anothervalue JVG
Conclusion • Reference lines for RORO shipscouldbenefit of dividing the ships in differentgroupsdetermined by the fraction GT/DWT • The groupscouldbeorganized for RO PAX and RORO Cargoindividually, but it seems more convenient to treat the RORO ships as a whole, as the deviation willfollow the same pattern • 88% of the shipswillfollow a reference line with an R2valuegreaterthan 0.80, and no line has an R2valuelessthan 0.68 • Highvalue of GT/DWT is followed by a highdegree of deviation on EEDI and dominated by RO PAX, but the nature of deviation seems to be the same for RORO Cargoships at same segment • Ships havingcargoonweather deck willbecategorizedwith a lowvalue of GT/DWT as GT does not reflectunshelteredcargo. Thiswill not influence the EEDI calculation of the ship but it could give a disadvantage to the ship as the required EEDI mightrefer to a more strictgroup. If the ship is alsoincluding containers orothercargoon deck, thiswillworsen the case.
