  10. Costs I will be in violation of the school rules Parents will be called May be embarrassed in class May get labeled as a trouble maker Miss classroom instruction I will be in trouble I might be expelled from school Benefits Kids and teachers will see me as different Individuality-expressing my personality I would look cool I will be doing what I want to do I don’t have to wear the same ugly stuff I don’t need to buy the ugly standardized dress … NOT follow the dress code

  11. Costs Every day I wear the same boring stuff Don’t feel creative Look like everyone else No one sees how great I can look My individuality never gets expressed Benefits Easy to dress in the morning Won’t ruin my cute clothes Will look like everyone else so it reduces competition Less expensive for my parents Won’t be in trouble … Follow the dress code

  12. Friendly Reminders • Remember: Whether it’s a cost and/or a benefit depends on your values, likes, dislikes, age, education, gender, nationality, etc. (point of view) • Example: Cold weather = a benefit for a young person who likes to ski. • Cold weather = a cost for the elderly who have difficulty moving around on ice and snow. • Would cold weather be a push or a pull factor for migration? • Discuss how cold weather might be both a push and a pull.
