12.7 Radical Equations CORD Math Mrs. Spitz Spring 2007
Objectives • Solve radical equations Assignment • pg. 503 #5-35 all
Ex. 5 – Geometric Mean • The geometric mean of two numbers is a square root of their product. Thus, the geometric mean of numbers a and b is ±√ab. Find two numbers that have a geometric mean of 6 given that one number is 5 more than the other.
Explore, Plan Let x = the lesser number, then let x + 5 = the greater number.
Ex. 5 -- SOLVE If x = -9, then x +5 = -4, then x + 5 = 9. Thus the number s are -9 and -4, or 4 and 9.
Reminders • 12.8 and the Chapter 12 review on your return the week we come back from Spring Break. Test will be on Thursday when we return; so you will also have a binder grade on that date. • Testing for MAPS will take place within the next 3 weeks.
