Building a Lender List • Staff/patron creates request • AGent re-searches (in background) all catalogs selected for display on the Search page to find libraries that own the item • Searches by ISBN, Author/Title, and Title • Potential records are validated using Author, Title, Publisher, Pub. Date, Bib. Level, and Record Type • Includes matching for sound recordings, movies, and large print books Title of This PPT in Footer
Building a Lender List • AGent identifies libraries that own the item and orders the Lender List based on the order in the Preferred Lender List/System Wide List • AGent can check Lending Policy if activated by consortium • AGent checks circulation status for the first lender, and if available, sends the request to the lender Title of This PPT in Footer
Checking Availability • Prior to sending a request to the next lender, AGent determines if the lender has a Z39.50 catalog • If the lender does, AGent sends a single search for the circulation status • ISBN • If no ISBN, then Author/Title • If no ISBN or A/T, then Title Exact • Authors and Titles are validated using slightly different criteria than the lender list build Title of This PPT in Footer
Selecting Good Lenders • Look for the bib record that matches what the patron wants • Not necessary to look for record with most lenders, or one of your preferred lenders • Do not edit the title field in the ILL request • Use Multi-copy Form for book club requests • Use Blank Request Form only if you are sure no bib record exists. • Lenders must be added manually Title of This PPT in Footer
Patron-Initiated ILL • Patrons search catalogs, place requests • Mediated or unmediated • Mediated requests go to Awaiting Approval • Unmediated requests go directly to first lender Title of This PPT in Footer
Reasons for Not Offering? • Patron uses wrong title to create ILL request • Patron selects an “acceptable” bib record • Patron orders title owned locally • “Owned by This Library” setting in Participant Record • Patron includes note in ILL request • “Request with Patron Note” setting in Participant Record • Patron places “too many” requests • ILL request limits by Patron Category Title of This PPT in Footer
Floating Collections • State Library’s Playaway collection • Titles to be added to Kansas Main Catalog • Borrower requests, item arrives at borrower • When borrower updates request to Received, location in union catalog changed from State Library to “Borrower’s Library Name” • Next borrower requests, process repeated Title of This PPT in Footer
