FRMAC Laboratory Analysis Web Portal Sean D. Fournier and Sonoya Shanks Sandia National Laboratories FRMAC Laboratory Analysis Working Group SAND 2013-1806C
Overview Introduction Project objectives Design Functionality Future Work Conclusions Questions
Introduction • FRMAC Lab Analysis Division – Provide sample management, field sample data quality assurance, and interface with laboratories to provide timely and accurate radiological data • 1000’s of samples/sample results processed during a response • QA performed on each sample record • All data stored in the Radiological Assessment and Monitoring System (RAMS)
Project Objectives • Increase efficiency of field sample result submission by the laboratories • Develop a website where laboratories can view analytical requests and post sample results • External to RAMS to avoid sensitive information issues • Accessible by both DOE and commercial laboratories • Enable laboratories to prepare for samples en route to their sites. • Easy-to-use interface that requires minimal training for users • Allow RAMS to automatically parse and retrieve data • Minimal site maintenance • Take opportunities to introduce laboratories to this website before it is used in a response
Functionality: Analysis Request Submission • Analysis Request is created in RAMS • Includes all information that the laboratory needs to analyze a batch of samples • List of samples and analytes • Measurement Quality Objectives • Contact dose rates • Special instructions • ARF is sent to WebPortal, email sent to laboratory POC • Introductory email • Notification email
Functionality: Laboratory Home Page • Laboratory can login and view the ARF and analysis instructions sheet to prepare for receipt and analysis of samples. • Laboratory receives samples and performs analysis • Laboratory will login and post data to Webportal • Manually • Via Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD)
Functionality: Analysis Request Home Page • Sample analyte information • Analysis Request Documents • Result document uploader
Functionality: Manual Result Submission Form • Enter all information for the analyte here • Options to save and submit, or just save without submitting to RAMS • Required fields for any entry: Result Type, Result Unit, Result, Uncertainty, Unc Sigma, Critical Level or MDA
Functionality: Upload of RAMS EDDto the Webportal • Create New result with nuclide “_EDD-upload” • Enter any number in the required fields • Save record but do not submit • Attach EDD excel file as a result document with a description of what samples are included. • Attach all hardcopy reports for the data submitted in the EDD • Submit “_EDD-upload” dummy result
Future Work • Improve EDD submission process to make more user-friendly • Create upload utilities for other common EDDs (ICLN’s MDE, EPA’s WebEDR, etc.) • Expand ease of use • Unit converter • Copy/Paste functionality for manual entry • Upload multiple documents at one time • Improve communication between FRMAC and Laboratory • Current Laboratory Capacity • Issues with Analysis
Conclusion Introduction of the Webportal greatly reduces the workload of the FRMAC personnel Decreases turn-around-time for data upload which leads to faster Assessment deliverables Site requires minimal maintenance but has obvious room for improvement
