  3. What are the Media Arts? • The media arts are considered any form of the arts that has been created with technology. • This can include the visual arts, music, dance, and drama. • Most commonly thought of media arts are film, graphic design, and digital music.

Technology in Education From Edutopia: The three uses of technology. • Doing old things in old ways. • Hand writing a paper • Doing old things in new ways. • Typing a paper on a computer. • Doing new things in new ways. • The goal of technology in education • Doing things that couldn’t be done before • Tailored to purpose of assessment

  6. Why Use the Media Arts?

  7. Arts and Humanities Program Review Curriculum and Instruction Demonstrator 2 Aligned and Rigorous Curriculum c. The school curriculum provides opportunities for integration as natural cross-curricular connections are made between the arts and other content areas.

The Media arts are coming (most likely ) With the students themselves using technology as such a regular part of their lives, integrating that technology in education is becoming (has become?) necessary. With the increasing ability of smart phones and tablets, integrating the media arts is becoming easier and useful.

  11. Rubrics for projects can include not only the demonstration of knowledge of the content but also the quality of the presentation of that knowledge. Documentary Rubric sample

  12. “Flipping the Class” • Technique in teaching where class time is used for homework and lectures are done through video to be watched on student’s own time. • Screencast-O-Matic for creating on screen tutorials and presentations with your audio.

  13. Equipment • Free editing software: Windows Movie Maker, imoive, AvidFreeDV, Wax • Presi, PowToon • Cameras- smart phones, camcorders • Microphones- lavalier (lapel) mic, shotgun

  14. Other Things to Consider • Visual Arts • 3D Modeling: Blender, 3DS Max • Digital Art: GIMP, Photoshop Corel Painter, ArtRage • Visual Effects: After Effects • Music • Garage Band, Mixcraft, Incompetech

  15. Southern Films & STLP Southern Middle’s after school filmmaking club. We are the STLP chapter for our school, we submit our works to film festivals, and have a screening at the end of the year.
