Butterfield Bobcats First Grade Newsletter for the Week of February 7th – February 11thMrs. Landrum, Ms. Wyant, Mrs. Schrieber, Ms. George,Ms. Hevly, & Mrs. Shull Writing: This week in writing the students will be continue hearing and reading different types of poetry. The students will learn that poems often have rhyming words and follow a pattern or rhythm. The students will create their own poems using proper conventions such as capital letters, word spacing, punctuation, and correctly spelled sight words. Reading: This week in reading we are working on Theme 7 Week 3. The students will be introduced to the /oo/ vowel sound in moon. The students will learn that this sound can be spelled several different ways. The students will also be introduced to the igh word family. The students will be focusing on fantasy and realism as a comprehension skill. We are also reviewing the following high frequency words: build, old, piece, shoe, start, under, very, & wear. Please practice at home! TeacherNotes: *This weeks’ math packet , homework activities, and reading log are due Monday, February 14th. You have a week to finish them. *McDonald's Teacher Work Night: Wednesday, February 9th from 4:30-7:30. I will be working the later shift. Please be watching our website for more information and my work time. *Friendship and Math Night: Thursday, February 10th from 5:30-7:00. Come join the fun! *NO SCHOOL: Monday, February 15th in honor of Presidents' Day. Math This week in math the students will practice solving addition problems with three numbers such as 6+4+2 = 12. The students will also use their knowledge of doubles facts to add one; such as 4+4=8 so 4+5=9. The students will begin subtracting by counting backwards.
