Student Learning Outcomes
EVALUATION Evaluation of your ability to meet the course objectives will be as follows: • CISA 170A (Part 1): One unit of credit is earned for completing Keyboarding: The Alphabet, The Numbers, The Symbols (Lessons 1-20) and passing with at least 60 percent, Test 1. • CISA 170B (Part 2): One unit of credit is earned for completing Email, Word Processing, Reports, Correspondence, and Tables (Lessons 21-40) and passing with at least 60 percent, Test 2. • CISA 170C (Part 3): One unit of credit is earned for completing Reports, Correspondence, Employment Documents, Skillbuilding, and In-Basket Review (Lessons 41-60) and passing with at least 60 percent, Test 3. The last component of the learning package is the progress test which is designed to evaluate your achievement of all course objectives. After the completed test is scored, you may discuss your performance with the instructor. If you do not satisfactorily complete the progress test, you will rework those lessons that caused difficulty and retake the progress test. Grading Procedure
GRADING STANDARDS: The course grade will be determined on the following basis: • DAILY WORK for Parts A, B, and C: 20 lessons per each part must be completed; ½ point will be earned per completed lesson (10% of course grade). Grading Standards
Each lesson begins with goals which describe desirable and measurable skills, attitudes, or knowledge that you will be able to demonstrate upon completion of the lesson. The learning activities within each lesson are directed toward the objective and offer a variety of instructional approaches to the content of the lesson. The instruction is then presented by a computer program and printed materials. The individual assistance of an instructor is available at all times. You will be able to proceed at the rate of your capabilities and/or other time commitments. At the conclusion of each lesson, you will complete a performance test in order to determine the degree of your success in achieving the stated lesson objectives. If you meet the goal, it is evidence of readiness for the next lesson. Extra practice on similar material is assigned if you do not achieve the lesson objective. You may review or repeat any lesson as often as you wish. Lesson Procedures
PROGRESS TEST 1 (CISA 170A) Progress Test 1 will be taken after you have completed Lessons 1-20. There is an objective/written test and a timed writing evaluation. • BEFORE taking the test, see a staff member to discuss the test procedures. • TAKE THE OBJECTIVE/WRITTEN TEST. (This is not timed, but you must be on the testing log.) When finished, hand your test to a staff member. • Notifyan instructional staff member when you are ready to take Progress Test 1 (Timed Writings). THIS IS A TIMED TEST—YOU MUST BE ON THE TESTING LOG FOR THIS TEST. • TAKE THE TIMED WRITING EVALUATION. (30 minutes) • Have a staff member print the timed writings. Give all test materials to a staff member. Be sure your test is marked off the testing log. PROGRESS TEST 2 (CISA 170B) Progress Test 2 will be taken after you have completed Lessons 21-40. The material for Progress Test 2 is found on pages 147-148 in your textbook. • BEFORE taking the test, see an instructional staff member for test procedures. • Notifyan instructional staff member when you are ready to take Progress Test 2. THIS IS A TIMED TEST—YOU MUST BE ON THE TESTING LOG FOR THIS TEST. • PRINT each job as you finish it. If you have time, go back, edit, and print another copy. PROGRESS TEST 3 (CISA 170C) Progress Test 3 will be taken after you have completed Lessons 41-60. The material for Progress Test 3 is found on pages 229-231 in your textbook. • FOLLOW STEPS 2-4 UNDER TEST 2 INSTRUCTIONS. Lesson Procedure cont.
Complete lessons 1-20. Have test explained by a staff member. There are two parts to Test 1—the Objective (written) test and the Progress (timed writings) test. You do not need to do the two parts on the same day; you may do them on two separate days if you wish. The Objective part is not timed. You may take as much time as you would like (in one sitting). The test could cover anything covered from day 1 (course handouts—Orientation) through what you have learned now. The Progress part (timed writings) will be timed for 30 minutes. You may type the timed writings as many times as you would like in the 30 minutes. The timed writings are two minutes each. We will use the four best timed writings (two from the alphabetic copy [1A] and two from the numeric copy [1B]). There will be a total of four timed writings to be graded. Review handouts and book. Tell staff member you are ready to take the Objective Part of your test. A staff member will add you to the testing log. You will need to use your book for the test so bring it with you. When you are done, hand your test to a staff member. Practice any timed writings with and without numbers or other skill building exercises. Tell a staff member you are ready to take the timed writing part of your test. We will provide the test to you, and when you start typing, we will time you for the 30 minutes. A staff member will print the timed writing scores when the 30 minutes are up. All the papers will be handed in and graded. Your grade should be ready by your next class period. Keyboarding 1A Test Instructions
The Business Skills Center allows students to enroll throughout the semester in a self-paced, individualized learning program in three levels of keyboarding: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Keyboarding 1: (CISA 170A, CISA 170B, CISA 170C), and Keyboarding 2: (CISA 171A, CISA 171B, CISA 171C), are open entry/open exit courses. Units earned are based on the student’s successful completion of work undertaken. Miscellaneous Course Information
The instructional staff will work with you to determine your present keying ability and then place you in the appropriate part of the program. Placement
