  1. International Impact Our mission is to provide grassroots service to the international and campus community through volunteer experiences abroad, as well as to promote cross-cultural understanding and experiential learning among university students.

  2. Background • Happy 9th anniversary!! • Completely student run • Not religiously affiliated • Cultural learning • Service abroad to serve our campus • “Ripple effect”

  3. Past Projects • China • Peru • Turkey • Mexico • Ecuador • Guatemala • Dominican Republic

  4. Membership • Active Membership. Membership shall include all those who participate in International Impact activities.  This includes anyone who has done all of the following in one semester: • 1 volunteer event (at least 4 events) • 1 social event (at least 4 events) • 2 fundraising events (at least 8 events) • 60% of general meetings (7ish meetings) • Hold 1 RSO cube hour per week Only ACTIVE members will qualify to receive any International Impact reimbursements.

  5. Treasurer • Job as treasurer • SORF • Apply for SORF Funding • Acquire documentation from all project members (bank statements, receipts, etc) • Finish all reimbursements • Keep ledger of bank account • Work towards NPO status (501c3)

  6. Fundraising! • Concessions at football games, basketball games, and concerts • Canning • Food sales

  7. Volunteering in the Community • Soup Kitchen: Distribute food • Manor Care Housing: Assistance to senior citizens • Salt and Light: Sort and distribute clothing • Don Moyer’s Boys and Girls Club: Assistance to underprivileged children

  8. Social Events • Bar Crawls • Movie Nights • Jugo Nights • Bags Tournaments

Cusco, Peru • Machu Picchu Spanish School • What: School dedicated to service in the community via the help of foreign volunteer services as well as teaching Spanish to such volunteers who aren't fluent. • Activities: • Volunteering in local medical clinics • Aiding Indigenous population in rural/mountainous areas • Working with mentally challenged children in hospital • Community healthcare projects • Juvenile rehabilitation projects • Duration: Winter Break 08-09 for 2-3 weeks

  11. Peru-estimated Cost • Plane ticket: $1000-1,200 • Room and Board (3 meals/day): $110/week • Site seeing (including hostels, entrance fees): $70 • Travel: • Taxis: $20 • Bus: $20 • Train: $70 • Misc: $200

Quijarro, Boliva Corumba, Brazil • Objective: give children of the poorer areas the chance to further their education and enjoy their childhood. • Our Objective: to act as teachers of English, the arts, math, music, etc • Duration: Winter 08-09 for 2-3 weeks • Estimated Cost: • Plane ticket: $1,000-1,200 • Fee for organization: FREE!! • We have to find our own room: $70/week • Food and travel expenses: $200

  16. What do they do? • Rural Development • Agroecological Focus • Protection of microforests & valleys • Environmental education • Defends campesino agriculture • Organic agriculture program

  19. Cost • 12 days at the Hacienda = $220, meals and housing included • The hotel in Mindo = $90/night, all activities and food included • Quito = $150 for everything • Flight = $900 • Spending = $200 • Total = $1700

  24. Project Costs • Travel (plane tickets) $500 • Snack food, Travel to and from outings, and Weekend Group Outings $100 • Housing $150 ($75 per week food included) • Souvenirs $200 tops • Tentative travel dates Dec 26-Jan 14 • Yep that means New Years in Guatemala

What we are looking for… • Dedication • Passionate about volunteering • Willing to open up to other cultures • It is a privilege for us to be allowed into the homes and communities of the places where we do service. In little time you will see that, though we went there to provide for people who we thought were “less fortunate,” it is we who come back having learned a lesson and gained from the experience. We are lucky to meet such amazing people and learn from their lives and their cultures. • We are looking for someone like… YOU!
