  2. Kingston Ash Recovery ProjectWater Quality and River Flow Monitoring TVA’s Data Acquisition and Testing group has designed, fabricated, installed, and operated six float based and two land based Water Quality and River Flow Monitoring Stations. The parameters measured are listed below. • Water Quality parameters (Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, Water Temperature, pH, etc ) are monitored using Hydrolab DataSonde Sensor packages in the Emory River and Kingston Intake and Discharge Channels. • River Flow is measured using an Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter ( ADV ) The data is transmitted through the cell phone network to servers on the TVA network The Water Quality and River Flow readings for the eight monitored sites are available through the DataWare archiving and data plotting program

  3. Water Quality Monitoring Float Based Data Acquisition and Communication System at Kingston Intake Channel

  8. Hydrolab DataSonde 5X Water Quality Sensor Package ( Measures Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, Water Temperature, pH, Conductivity, and Sensor Depth ) Multiple Sensor Package Optical Dissolved Oxygen Sensor

  9. River Flow Measurement using Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter on Transport Trailers

  10. Installing Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter ( ADV ) River Flow Measurement Package with a Float Based Data Acquisition and Communication System

  11. Kingston Ash Recovery Project Water Quality and River Flow Data Evaluation, Distribution, and Presentation The Water Quality and River Flow data is collected from monitoring stations every 15 minutes. The data is then automatically evaluated to be establish it’s status as acceptable or unacceptable data. To pass this electronic inspection, each data point must be within the established range for that parameter and collected from a properly deployed instrument . If the data is found to be acceptable, it is passed to DataWare and then to EQuIS. The unacceptable data is passed to a database where it will be evaluated by TVA’s Quality Assurance staff. The basic outline for data evaluation is shown on the next two slides

  12. Remotely Controlled Water Sampling System TVA’s Data Acquisition and Testing group has designed, fabricated, and installed a float based ISCO Water Sampling and Refrigeration System The system is powered by batteries that are recharged by solar panels. The system was fabricated and installed by Data Acquisition and Testing’s shop in December 2009. This system allows TVA staff and contractors to use the cell phone network initiate water sample collection without visiting the float. This system eliminates the need to call staff to travel into the river to start a system during potentially hazardous weather.
