  3. Registering to Use Focus • Two Step Process: 1. Take DOI Learn Tutorial 2. Create Account in Focus Buffalo River

  4. DOI Tutorial • Go to DOI Learn (https://doilearn2.doi.gov/) • Choose NPS Focus Digital Library Tutorial Course# CIO1001 • Follow Tutorial Instructions • Take Quiz at the end and score 80% or higher USS Arizona

  5. Sequoia and Kings Canyon Create a Focus Account • Go to Focus Data Entry Page(http://dataentry.focus.nps.gov/home) and choose Register New User • Fill out form. This is where you create username and password. • Send an email to NPS_Focus@nps.gov • E-mail conformation sent.

  8. Jefferson National Expansion Fast Track • Be sure to choose correct type of file (Image or Document). • This view brings up only 13 fields. • These fields contain the 7. mandatory elements from the NPS Digital Photo Metadata Standards.

  12. George Washington Carver Full Record • This brings up all 25 fields • Use to create a detailed record, or if you don’t see a needed field in fast track option. • Choose image and/or doc file in file upload section

  13. National Register Creating Multiple Records • Choose if you want to create another record

  14. Gettysburg Batch Upload-User Directed • Use to upload several images to a single record

  15. Booker T. Washington Choose Batch Upload in Data Entry • Make sure to specify correct park catalog and folder. • Browse your driveto upload multipleimage • Click upload whenfinished

  16. Manassas Batch Upload Images to Record • Create record in data entry

  17. Muir Woods Batch Upload Images to Record • Click the radio button next to the correct file. • Focus will automatically fill in info for new file, and increment the part number. • Click Submit Record button at the bottom of the page.

Manassas Batch Upload-Assisted • Use when there are a large amount of records to be uploaded into Focus. • Fill out a pre-designed Excel spreadsheet with metadata. • Send the spreadsheet to me, along with the files(image or docs) to be attached to the records. • I review the spreadsheet, convert it to XML files and upload to Focus.

  19. Sequoia and Kings Canyon Incorporating Images in a Web Page • Navigate to the NPS Focus record with the needed image. • Open image in a new browser. • Choose which size you want. • Copy the URL • Use HTML imgsrc= or a href= commands.

  22. Vietnam Veterans Linking to records • Use to add a link in your webpage to the Focus record. • Cannot just copy the URL • Must specify a field or combination of fields in URL to uniquely identify a record. • Be aware of focus.inside.nps.gov vs. npsfocus.nps.gov
