3. Denotation • the literal or primary meaning of a word, in contrast to the feelings or ideas that the word suggests. • the exact meaning of the words or phrase. • the pink unicorn= is actually referring to a pink unicorn.

Connotation an idea or feeling that a word invokes in addition to its literal or primary meaning. something that is not stated or something that is not supposed to be exactly interpreted the way it is written.
