  16. Student Use • U of M students: • Primarily for personal use-to stay in contact with friends and family • Facebook and MySpace most popular • Security settings used to limit profiles • Lewd pictures and excessive alcohol use seen as inappropriate • Do NOT think employers should be involved

Student Opinion • Might be ok for student to initiate • Reserve “friendships” for peers • Different with TA’s because closer in age • “too much one-way self-disclosure” • “inappropriate to be "friends" with some but not all of your students if you're grading their tests and papers, like preferential treatment” -U of M Senior • “We are friendly, but not friends “-U of M grad student • Favor e-mailing if they want to stay in contact
