The Shoshone tribe lived In one of the driest places the great basin in North America. They also lived in vast grasslands, but there were two types of grasslands. One was eastern near Mississippi , and the other one was a valley where it got plenty of rainfall. The habitat they lived in was great for farming also was a home for the hunting tribes. There were also small lakes, rivers , and creeks. Without water sources they could never live in the region. But they can survive so that’s were the Shoshone tribe lives. Were there any special ceremonies this tribe did? Lot’s of people celebrate different things, and have ceremonies for different things. But today you’ll hear how the Shoshone tribe celebrated things. Usually they had a ceremony for healing the sick , victory over enemies, or for food. Another ceremony is when tribes gather together for the communal Bison hunt. At the communal Bison hunt some hooks, or skewers, and other weapons were driven through the skin and chests of men. And that is how the Shoshone tribe’s ceremonies are different from ours. What work did men, women, and children do? Do you want to know what work the Shoshone tribe men, women, and children do? Let’s get started then. The children had a quite easy job, it was collecting food and water. From there the women’s job was to cook and prepare the food. An example was setting the table and putting the food together nicely. The men and teenage boys would make and repair weapons, tools, and clothing. Everybody helped in some part to prepare and get what needed done, and I think that was great. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: imagequest
What kind of house did the Shoshone tribe live in? All over the world houses are different. So are the Shoshone tribe houses. The Shoshone tribe lived in longhouses. They cut up saplings and tied it with animal hides or with twine made out of grass. The Shoshone tribe also had many different types of houses for all sorts of ceremonies. I learned that the longhouses could fit a lot of people. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: worldbook

What type of clothing did the Shoshone tribe wear? Have you ever wondered how our clothes are different from the Shoshone tribe’s clothes? Well I can tell you. Most of the time the Shoshone tribe wore clothes made out of animal skin. It wasn’t just animal skins, they decorated it with quills, fringes, feathers, and more. Their everyday wear was loin clothing for the summer for the men. In the winter they’ll wear leggings, a shirt, and moccasins made from animal skin. Women usually wore buckskin dresses. All their clothes could be decorated with natural resources. A Bison robe was very important for winter clothing for all tribe’s. From my thoughts the Shoshone tribe always had proper clothing for the weather. Back to Table of Contents Photo Credit: worldbook

They used cut up saplings and tied them tightly with animal hides or with twine made out of grass. Southern Shoshone tribe often moved and their wiki ups had to be easy to pack up and carry.
