  2. Pearson Test of English Centre Vytautas Magnus University Centre of Foreign Languages has been acknowledged as an Official Testing Centre for the International Pearson Company since the 8th of April, 2009.

Pearson Test of English Centre We have been accredited the right to administer theEnglish Language Tests: London Test of English (LTE) (Pearson Test of English General(PTE General) since November 2009) and London Test of English for Children (LTEfC)(Pearson Test of English for Young Learners (PTE Young Learners) since November 2009)

  4. What is Pearson? Pearson is an international media company with world–leading businesses in education, business information, consumer publishing and testing. Pearson Language Tests (PLT) delivers a suite of English language tests designed to assess the English language usage of students who are speakers of other languages. Pearson Tests of English (PTE) include: Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), Pearson Test of English General (PTE General) and Pearson Test of English Young Learners (PTE Young Learners).

  5. Why take PTE General at the Centre of Foreign Languages (VMU)? Pearson Test of English General (PTE General) is designed to reward positive achievement in English language learning.

If you learn English to help with employment opportunities or admission into an English-speaking university, or simply to enjoy the culture and language of other countries, this test can meet the differing needs of all students.  You can enter at a stage that suits you, and rise through the series as you improve your formal, informal and work-related English language skills.

All the applicants who have successfully passed the PTE General are awarded with an international certificate to testify the English language competency. The certificate of Pearson Language Test is honoured and recognised in many countries around the world by Universities; Employers; Ministries of Education.

  8. Why take PTE General at the Centre of Foreign Languages (VMU)? Among a great number of universities, employers and Ministries of Education around the world, the following institutions for example, are the British universities and colleges which have agreed to recognise the Pearson Tests of English as evidence of the English language competency for admission. The list indicates which level of PTE is accepted for undergraduate and post-graduate courses.

  11. What is PTE General? PTE General consist of two parts: a written paper and an oral test. The written paper tests listening, readingcomprehension and writing skills and is marked by external examiners in the UK. The oral test is assessed by trained local examiners and is sent to the UK for moderation.

  12. What is PTE General? There are six levels which are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

  14. What is PTE General? Level A1: for test takers with a beginner level knowledge of English sufficient for survival in social, travel and everyday situations.

  15. What is PTE General? Level 1: for test takers with a basic command of English to cope with language needs for social, travel and everyday purposes.

  18. What is PTE General? Level 4:for test takers applying for higher education in an English speaking institution and/or wishing to demonstrate an advanced level in English for social, academic and vocational purposes. Level 4 is recognized for admission to a number of UK universities.

  20. What is PTE General? motivate and help build confidence PTE General is a scenario-based English language test designed to allow students the freedom to express themselves, show what they can do and how well they can use English as speakers of other languages.

What is PTE General? feature authentic and relevant scenarios The emphasis for the students is on real-life situations that learners will meet, not on how well they remember formal vocabulary and structures. For this reason, these tests use real-life scenarios rather than grammatical exercises, and focus on a student’s ability to both understand and communicate proficiently.

  22. What is PTE General? are flexible and communicative The tasks set at each level are similar to the tasks used in modern communicative course books and a variety of teaching materials and approaches can be used to prepare for the tests.

What is PTE General? integrate all four skills There is a single paper which tests listening and reading comprehension and extended writing and an oral test which is taken before the written test paper. The communicative nature of the tests enables them to be shorter for test takers, without compromising the quality of the achievement.

  26. How to prepare for the PTE General Test? The types of tasks that test takers have to do in the tests are similar to those found in most modern communicative course books (such asLanguage Leader).  Also, the topics used in most course books are similar to those used in the tests.  Most modern course books will provide practice relevant to the test.   There is, therefore, no need to follow a specific PTE General course. 

  27. What are the scores awarded at each PTE General level? The scores awarded for the PTE General at each level are: Distinction Merit Pass Fail

  28. Grade Ranges for the PTE General Pass: 55% – 60% Merit: 70% – 75% Distinction: 80% – 85%

  29. When can test takers take PTE General? Scheduled sessions are in May, June, November and December for PTE General and in May, June and November for PTE Young Learners
