T12 to HPT8 Change-outsSmall/Rural request for development May 15, 2012
Purpose • Present savings methodology • Cite sources used in development • Staff recommendations on next steps
Baseline and Efficient Case wattages • Baseline wattage of T12 fixtures from ETO lighting calculator • HPT8 wattages of HPT8 fixtures from ETO lighting calculator • Weight BF combination by frequency of occurrence in ETO program
Savings methodology • Baseline and target wattages from lighting calculator tool • Hours of use from KEMA and DOE studies applicable to kitchens • 2009 KEMA study – 2.5 Hrs/day for Single Family Kitchens • 2010 DOE study – 2.3 Hrs/day for Single Family Kitchens • De-rating for space heat interaction from 6th Power Plan (15%) • Multiply fixture delta watts by kitchen hours of use and de-rate to get savings kWh savings = [W(base) – W(target)]/1000 X HOU X 365 X (1-Space Interaction factor)
If Small Saver, also need… • Estimate of regional potential • Distribution of linear fluorescent lamps in residential kitchens • Number of kitchens in region • Distribution of baseline fixture types in kitchen • e.g. 4’ T12 1-lamp vs. 4’ T12 4-lamp
Next Steps for S/R subcommittee • Should this continue as down the small saver path? • Sufficient data appears to exist to estimate savings for 1-for-1 lamp change-outs • Two large end-use studies exist to predict number of hours per day, which is primary variable • DOE study information can likely estimate regional potential • Are certain change-out combinations preferred? • Comparison of regional lighting calculator baseline and target case wattages • Anything else missing?
