  1. Introduction to the Pathway Meetings Hugh Dyer WR DTC Induction Day 2/10/2012

  2. (1) POSTERS • Following lunch which ends at 13:40 there is an opportunity for everyone to take some time to have a look at the student posters on display in the Bar Area. These are posters that were first exhibited at the DTC Spring Research Methods Conference in York held last May and there willbe an opportunity for new students to submit a poster at the next conference which will be held in Leeds. In the pack is a sheet giving an abstract for each poster.

  3. (2) SWAP SHOP • Also in the Bar Area is the Swap ShopBoard. This is an informal opportunity to exchange ideas, research interests, worries, topics and emails. It’s an opportunity to locate someone with similar research interests, but who is not in your research Pathway. Its a chance to network (across departments, universities, nations etc) without the formality of university structures. You can use it to find someone who has the expertise or experience you’re looking for, and it’s a chance to offer your expertise, interests and experience to others.

  4. SWAP SHOP • The Swap Shop Board is organised into two sections. In one you post up something you’d like to *offer or give*, on the other, something you would like help with or something you *need*. • You'll find post-it notes and instructions in your pack.

  5. (3) PATHWAY MEETINGS The Pathway Meetings are scheduled to begin at 14:15 - your chance to meet up with other students in your Pathway and talk over plans for the coming year. A note in the pack gives some ideas of the topics you may wish to cover, but thisis a time for you to use in a way that best suits your group. All that we ask is: use your flip chart paper to record: • (1) What the DTC can do to support the development of your Pathway, • (2) The contribution your Pathway can make to thenew DTC website and electronic Newsletter and • (3) Identify any advanced training needs.

  6. PATHWAY MEETINGS • The Pathway Meetings will take place in a variety of rooms in this building (The Edge) and the Halifax building near by - please refer to your packs to check where yourPathway is meeting. Your allocated Pathway is indicated on your name badge. • At 15:45 the meetings will conclude and you are invited to end the day with refreshments in the Dining Room on the ground floor before the close of the event at 4:00pm • Enjoy the afternoon!
