  2. FCAT 2.0 Science Grades 5 and 8 • The assessments begin in Spring 2012. • All items are multiple-choice. • The benchmarks are grouped together by similar content. All groups are annually assessed. • The Test Item Specifications are available on DOE’s website (see end of presentation for link).

  3. FCAT 2.0 Science Grade 5 • Comprehensive assessment based on benchmarks from grades 3 – 5 • Test length: 60 – 66 questions (including field-test items*) • Administration time and achievement levels have not yet been determined. * Field-test items do not count toward student scores.

  4. FCAT 2.0 Science Grade 8 • Comprehensive assessment based on benchmarks from grades 6 – 8 • Test length: 60 – 66 questions (including field-test items*) • Administration time and achievement levels have not yet been determined. • Periodic table and calculators will be provided. • Density equation and other equations, if needed, will be printed with the test item. * Field-test items do not count toward student scores.

  5. FCAT 2.0 Science Reporting Categories Grade 5 • Nature of Science: 17% • Earth and Space Science: 29% • Physical Science: 29% • Life Science: 25% Grade 8 • Nature of Science: 19% • Earth and Space Science: 27% • Physical Science: 27% • Life Science: 27%

  6. Biology 1 EOC • This computer-based test assesses benchmarks included in the Biology 1 course descriptions. • The assessment will be baselined in Spring 2012. • All items are multiple-choice. • Benchmarks are grouped together by similar content. All groups are annually assessed. • The Test Item Specifications will be available on the DOE website in early- to mid-June 2011.

  7. Biology 1 EOC Reporting Categories • Molecular and Cellular Biology: 35% • Classification, Heredity, and Evolution: 25% • Organisms, Populations, and Ecosystems: 40% * Nature of Science benchmarks are embedded within the reporting categories according to the item’s context.

  9. Achievement Level Descriptions and Standard Setting • To fully transition to the new FCAT 2.0 and Florida End-of-Course (EOC) Assessments, Florida must engage in a process of identifying new Achievement Levels. This process is known as standard setting. Standard setting includes many steps, including the development of Achievement Level Descriptions (ALDs). • ALD meetings for FCAT 2.0 Science and the Biology 1 EOC assessment will be held in August 2011. • Link to Information on ALD purpose and process: https://app2.fldoe.org/Assessment/fcatEOC/pdf/UnderstandingALDs.pdf
