Co-Principal Investigator Nebil Buyurgan, Ph.D. Graduate Assistant Chaitanya Sannathi, MSIE Professional Assistant Mike Powers, MSIE Professional Assistant Kellie Thompson, MSIE Project Motivation • Implement previous research entitled ”Automated Assessment of a Critical Food Processing Variable” • Technical practicality and economic feasibility of proposed project proven Project Activities • Transfer of data from measuring system to central computer • Database management and record keeping • Adaptive control for varying the conveyor speed • Decision model for determining proper conveyor speed • Functional system for automated internal temperature probing Project Objectives • Development of decision model for controlling conveyor speed • Development of data gathering/keeping to support decision model Research Methodology • PHASE II ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT • Purchase of machine visioned robotic arm and other equipment/supplies • Prepare physical site to include safety, sensors, interlocks and utilities • Validate programming and operating of partial system in lab setting before installation • Training attendant and maintenance personnel • Consultation for installation process • Assist in validation process to meet USDA regulations PHASE I ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT • Specialized end effectors • Self adjusting temperature probing fixture • Automated recovery techniques • Ensuring sanitation procedures • Develop attendant training • Define maintenance procedures GRAPHIC GRAPHIC GRAPHIC UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS – INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING
