  1. Who Am I? – Part 2 **Reminder – please be sure to complete assignments as you work through the PowerPoint and save them to your Careers folder**

  2. How am I Smart? • Experts who study intelligence say that school “smarts” can be measured by IQ (Intelligent Quotient). But IQ only measures how you handle verbal and math problems – and leave out other entire areas of intelligence. • Many experts now believe that people have multiple intelligences – 8 different kinds of “smarts”. • Each of us has intelligence in all 8 areas, but every individual has 3 or 4 areas that are dominant. • These intelligences have a big influence over what we like doing and how we approach learning.

  3. Multiple Intelligences (MI) • Naturalist intelligence: understanding nature, seeing patterns win the way nature works; classifying things • Interpersonal intelligence: understanding the feelings, needs and purposes of others • Logical/mathematical intelligence: reasoning, logical thinking; handling mathematical problems • Visual/spatial intelligence: creating and interpreting visual images; thinking in 3 dimensions • Intrapersonal intelligence: understanding your own interior thoughts and feelings in a very clear way • Body/kinaesthetic intelligence: feeling and expressing things physically; doing hands-on work • Musical/rhythmic intelligence: creating and feeling a rhythm to express a mood; detecting and analysing musical themes • Verbal/linguistic intelligence: using language to present your ideas, to express your feelings or to persuade other.

  4. Activity • Complete the Multiple Intelligence handout that is saved in the Student Commons>Thompson>Career Studies file. • You will need to Save As: this file in your own documents to write on it! • To Do: • Complete the survey • Answer the questions on the sheet in complete sentences

If you have forgotten earphones then you need to skip this activity for today. • Questions to complete following the film: 1. What does Ken Robinson mean by schools kill creativity. Be detailed in this response. 2. Do you agree with Ken’s opinion?Why or why not? 3. What examples does he give of MI, and the ways that those students were treated?

  6. Personality Sorter • Complete the personality sorter. • The activity is located in: • Student Commons • Thompson • Career Studies • Personality Sorter • Be sure to resave the file in your own documents by selecting save as!

  7. Complete the following: • Self Assessment: Who Am I? – Complete each scale and answer the questions. Please get this handout from Ms. Thompson • Values Survey – Place a check mark in the column that most closely matches your feelings. Total your score, and read what each value says about you. Highlight the explanations of your top 4 values. Answer the questions after completing the survey. Get the handout for this from Ms. Thompson.

Career Cruising • Go to www.careercruising.com • Login: kawartha • Password: 18230 • Once you login to Career Cruising, you need to login to your portfolio so that you can save your work in Career Cruising. • Get your username and password for your portfolio from Ms. Thompson. Be sure to write it somewhere safe (perhaps in your phone, with you computer login?)

Career Cruising • Complete the following (Under the Assessments heading): • Career Matchmaker Survey – complete the survey ( you can choose to just answer 39 questions, PR answer the full 116 for a more effective assessment of career possibilities for you. Save your results to your portfolio, and print a copy of your results. • My Skills Survey – Complete the survey. Save and print your results. • Learning Styles Inventory – complete the survey. Save and print your results.

  10. Career Cruising Reflection Questions • After you have completed the 3 career Cruising Surveys, answer: • What were the top 5 Career Matchmaker results for you? Do any of these careers appeal to you? Why or why not? • Did any of the results form the My Skills survey surprise you? What areas for improvement do you have? How could you improve these areas? Be detailed! • What was your top learning style(s)? How can you use this knowledge of yourself to improve how you learn?
