From Graduate Certificate to M.A.T. • Admission • May apply at the end of the student teaching semester. • Some programs require that employment as a teacher to enter Phase II (the MAT program).
GC to M.A.T Facts • Graduate Certificate coursework will be applied toward the MAT (or MEd in CHFS), but you must apply to the program. Admission to one program does not rollover to a different program, especially a master’s degree. • Any extra graduate courses you take that do not apply to your Graduate Certificate program will not be applied to the master’s degree. Gain admission, then take the additional courses! • You must have 3.5 GPA or higher from your Graduate Certificate Coursework • You must have a recommendation from a full-time faculty member for your department. • You have six years to complete your master’s degree. The clock started ticking with the first course you took for the Graduate Certificate in Teaching, since those are the courses that will rollover to your master’s program. • Individual departments may have additional requirements. Check with your advisor.
Details about GC to M.A.T.. • Here are the details you should know while applying: • The MAT application process is online: http://www.uncc.edu/gradmiss/p_app_instructions.html • Your application will be considered after all parts are received by the Graduate School, including your test scores. • Transcripts, recommendations, and test scores tend to take more time to arrive than you might expect. You will need new recommendations for your new application. • You can monitor the status of your application online. • Deadlines matter when we are reviewing so many applications – get yours in on time for guaranteed consideration. • SEMESTER / TERM • APPLICATION DEADLINE • Fall: October 1st • Spring: May 1st • 1st or 2nd Summer: April 1st
