Significant changes to the inspection model • Two-stage inspection • Stage one: summer, focus on trainees with no written report • Stage two: autumn term, focus and judgements made on NQTs’ performance, written report follows • Consultation to May 6th 2014 • Implementation June 2014 • Key here is the performance of “our” NQTs
Accuracy of assessment of trainees • Outstanding: much of their teaching is outstanding and never less than consistently good • Good: much of their teaching is predominantly good, with examples of outstanding teaching • Requires improvement: trainees teaching requires improvement as it is not yet good
Areas of focus • Engagement of trainees in challenging settings • Direct observations • Accuracy of information to employers • Management of behaviour and discipline • Knowledge of curriculum and assessment • Pupil progress
Areas of focus cont. Professional dress code Tracking trainees’ progress High completion rates and employment Quality of NQT training Emphasis on competence not just confidence Absolute accuracy of assessment of trainees Less tolerance of grade three trainees And more….
