DEBORAH KAPLAN EVANS I have never been content to create work that merely pleases the eye or enhances the decor; nor do I want my work simply to mean something. I prefer to demand more from both my viewers and myself: I want to arrest the eye and hold it long enough to engage the viewer in an ongoing emotional and intellectual response.
DEBORAH KAPLAN EVANS • Working in her style: • Start with a mind map to create a theme eg: The Built Environment, Castles. Use the words from your mind map to research with, eg: turret, castles, knights, horses, armour, cannons, swords, shields, gates and draw bridges. • Cut out the pictures you collect. • Make a collage overlapping the images. • Trace the collage, paint your copy.
DEBORAH KAPLAN EVANS • To create her pictures she uses images she has collected from photographs, magazines, and collages them together in a theme. She then traces her collage and paints from the drawing making sure she copies the colours and images accurately.
