  3. FNMI Team • Consultant FNMI • 4 Aboriginal Community Liaison Workers • 8 Diverse Learning Teacher - FNMI • 2 Aboriginal PRIDE Coordinators Relationships and Empathy

  4. Academic Support • Diverse Learning Teacher (DLT) • Support our diverse learners in each school • Schools with a larger FNMI population have allocation specifically to address these needs • DLTs are supported with an extensive PD matrix to address the needs of our diverse learners • Act as a resource, mentor and coach for school based staff • Works in alignment with the Alberta Education FNMI education policy framework

Cultural Support • PRIDE Program • Designed to reinforce a positive identity, create a sense of belonging, support aboriginal youth to stay in school and empower aboriginal children and youth for success in school • Program is designed to address academic, cultural and spiritual needs of FNMI students

  6. FNMI District Initiatives • Introduce more opportunities for visual and oral learning styles • Incorporate inquiry based learning strategies • Use of culturally relevant materials when possible • Include elders in the school community • FNMI teaching and support staff

  7. Outcomes • Network of academic support for students, families and schools • Engage FNMI students both academically and socially • Stability for students both in and out of school • Increased class attendance

  8. FNMI Events • Analysis of Provincial Achievement Test and Accountability Pillar results in terms of FNMI education • Regular meetings with education directors at Tsuu T’ina and Stoney/Nakota • Traditional feasts • Parent evenings • FNMI graduation • Elders dinner

  9. Conclusion • The Calgary Catholic School District is committed to providing high quality instructional programs and educational services for our First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students and to increasing the understanding and value of FNMI cultures among all students.
