The Tragedy of Julius Caesar: the Play • Plot summary: • Julius Caesar returns after victory in war, becomes senate and leader of Rome • Cassius and Brutus fear he has too much power, plan to assassin him • 15th March: visits the senate: surrounded by Senators: got stabbed many times, killed • Despite Brutus’ explanations, Mark Anthony (friend of Caesar) convinces the people of Rome Republicans have done injustice • Forced to flee out of Rome. • Gather army in Greece to fight Mark Anthony and Octavius, Caesar’s nephew • Republicans lose: Cassius and Brutus both commit suicide. Cassius and Brutus Caesar being attacked
Characters in Julius Caesar • Julius Caesar: ruler and senate of Rome, killed by republican conspirators, main character • Brutus: Roman senator and mastermind of the plot to assassinate Julius Caesar • Cassius: brother-in-law of Brutus. Wants to take over the throne from Caesar • Mark Antony: best friend of Caesar, heroic leader of the forces that defeat Brutus and the other conspirators • Octavius: Caesar’s nephew, helped Anthony defeat republican senators Cassius Octavius
