Outline Objectives and values Communicating and making impact with external audiences Communicating within Fuse How you can help!
Fuse’s impact and communications strategy …aims to articulate how the Centre will encourage the co-production of knowledge communicate its purpose and research findings promote its impact
Fuse is a research-based organisation, so… ..we aim to have impact within the academic sphere by encouraging staff and students to publish results of their work in the highest grade peer reviewed journals
However… • Focusing on difference our organisation can make is also central to our vision of being a leading group in developing approaches to translational research in public health. • This facet of our work that gives Fuse coherence • Everyone in Fuse needs to be aware of our determination to use our research to make an impact
Impact targets? Funding bodies (UKCRC and others applied to for project/programme funding) Service/policy partners in health related services (NHS, Local Authority, GP commissioners, third sector organisations) Other academic researchers at national and international levels Senior management within own HEIs Public media Members of public, service users
C&I principles? • A two way enterprise – like a conversation • Not just dissemination • Listening is also part of communicating
The impact journey Do our target audiences know who we are and what we do? Do they care? Are we doing something that’s relevant to their interests? • Awareness • Interest • Desire (to do something about it) • Action Do they wish to work with us to develop or implement evidence or research a problem? Can we find a way of co-working to make sure we are defining research problems correctly/ implementing evidence successfully?
How do we communicate with external partners/audiences? Traditional publications ‘Accessible’ reports Website Newsletter Social media Dissemination events Knowledge/problem sharing events e.g. QRMs, seminars, R2R
Internal communications A long way to go! Distance doesn’t always lend enchantment to the view Competing priorities Website? Internal newsletter? Two way dialogue Involvement Post your ideas..
